Staff and Leadership

Senior Minister: Rev. Ian Smith

ian-smith332x500Ian was a broker in the City for 17 years (two in New York) when he felt called to train for ministry in 2001. Graduating from Spurgeon’s College with merit, Ian was ordained in 2005.
Ian led Christ Church in Stock, Essex, for nine years, four of which were a bi-vocational ministry while broking again. Ian and Andrea enjoyed seeing significant growth in that time with many baptisms and increase in church membership.
In 2014 Ian stepped down from the leadership at Christ Church because he felt a change coming. That change was Billericay Baptist Church and Ian was inducted as Senior Minister in February 2016.
Ian is married to Andrea and has two children, Kayleigh and Harry, and enjoys golf, cycling and West Ham!

Children's Worker: Charlotte Dove

charlotte-dove-75x100Charlotte has been a part of Billericay Baptist Church for a long time now: since she was a small child - with a brief three-year hiatus when she went to university. She was blessed to go through the children’s work in this church, so she knows how great it is!
She was a young leader in Girls' Brigade before she went to university, and has since been a part of the team for Kingdom Kids and Girls' Brigade. She also has the awesome privilege of running Tuesday Club at Sunnymede.
Children’s work is the thing in her life which brings her the most joy: she has never had a day so bad that an evening of craft and Bible stories with a great group of children couldn’t bring a huge smile to her face. Doing life alongside kids, and speaking The Word to them, is the most rewarding thing - and she believes that it’s a God-given passion.

Administrator: Mary Dove

mary-dove-200x150Mary joined the team in 2019 as Administrator, having worked as a Teaching Assistant at Buttsbury Junior School for the 14 years prior to this.  Her background before having children was in publishing as a Technical Editor for GEC and later working within publishing for IBM, plus various aspects of administration for the AA and IBM, particularly within travel and education.
Mary is married to Phil and has two great kids; Charlotte, who is our Children’s Worker, and Greg who works in IT in Bristol. Mary & Phil have attended BBC for 22 years, since moving to Essex for Phil’s job, and she has been involved in many aspects of the church, having taught in Beginners, run the Perry Street Coffee Rota for 14 years and led the TGIF Discipleship Group with Phil for about the same length of time. When not doing church stuff, she loves to sing in a choir and Mary & Phil spend lots of time (and money) going to music gigs. They enjoy travelling and entertaining. Mary is hoping to serve the Lord in this role to the best of her ability.

In 1971 Nick was appointed a Deacon and five years later the church called him to serve as an Elder looking after Pastoral and Membership details.
At the age of 60 Nick retired from work as a Computer Lecturer with the Ford Motor Company. Two years later Anthea discovered she had breast cancer which was followed by surgery and chemotherapy from which she made a good recovery.
Nick stood down from the Eldership to support Anthea and in 2013 both of them were asked by the then minister, Alasdair Macloud, to head up the new work at Sunnymede Chapel. Sadly the cancer returned attacking Anthea’s spine and she died on Valentine’s Day 2015. Later that year Nick was reappointed as an Elder responsible for the work at Sunnymede, the Service stream (mainly involved at the moment with IT) and church membership.
