Staff and Leadership

Senior Minister: Rev. Ian Smith

ian-smith332x500Ian was a broker in the City for 17 years (two in New York) when he felt called to train for ministry in 2001. Graduating from Spurgeon’s College with merit, Ian was ordained in 2005.
Ian led Christ Church in Stock, Essex, for nine years, four of which were a bi-vocational ministry while broking again. Ian and Andrea enjoyed seeing significant growth in that time with many baptisms and increase in church membership.
In 2014 Ian stepped down from the leadership at Christ Church because he felt a change coming. That change was Billericay Baptist Church and Ian was inducted as Senior Minister in February 2016.
Ian is married to Andrea and has two children, Kayleigh and Harry, and enjoys golf, cycling and West Ham!

Associate Minister: Rev. Tom Madders

TomMaddersTom joined the church in September 2016 as Minister in Training, having previously spent twelve years working in the London Insurance Market. He completed his degree in Theology in summer 2019, graduating with first class honours, and was appointed Associate Minister at Billericay Baptist Church.
Before joining Billericay, Tom was a member of Christ Church, Stock where he gained valuable experience in various ministries including serving as an elder for six years, helping to oversee the youth work and preaching regularly.
Tom is married to Jo and they have one son, Timothy. Away from church Tom enjoys watching and playing cricket, exploring the great outdoors, and is a big fan of Indian cuisine!

Youthwork Director: Gary Bott

GaryBottGary is married to Katie and they have 3 growing sons!
Gary oversees our youth work and is passionate about seeing them discipled into an active relationship with Jesus Christ. He enjoys working with young people and being able to help them through life’s struggles. He also enjoys networking with other youth leaders and discovering new ways God is interacting with them.
Gary holds an MA in missional leadership and is committed to seeing the church engage with the community, where he is involved in the local school’s ministry and as a football pastor at Billericay Town. He has a love/hate relationship with Tottenham Hotspur and loves watching truck racing. In his spare time, he can be found chilling with a cup of tea as he embarks on various carpentry projects.

Pastoral Assistant: Rev. Ian Moore

rev-ian-moore-75x100Ian's sheltered life in Essex changed radically when he found a living faith in Jesus Christ.
Having a young family, he gave up a secure job to become a pastor in a small village church Ingatestone.
Through a series of amazing opportunities, doors opened to go to India and Africa, work among gypsies and in prisons. This was far outside his comfort zone and ability, but through it God has done great things.
Any attempt to retire has failed dismally - he has found that God operates in a realm beyond our own capacity. All very humbling but so amazing!

Children's Worker: Charlotte Dove

charlotte-dove-75x100Charlotte has been a part of Billericay Baptist Church for a long time now: since she was a small child - with a brief three-year hiatus when she went to university. She was blessed to go through the children’s work in this church, so she knows how great it is!
She was a young leader in Girls' Brigade before she went to university, and has since been a part of the team for Kingdom Kids and Girls' Brigade. She also has the awesome privilege of running Tuesday Club at Sunnymede.
Children’s work is the thing in her life which brings her the most joy: she has never had a day so bad that an evening of craft and Bible stories with a great group of children couldn’t bring a huge smile to her face. Doing life alongside kids, and speaking The Word to them, is the most rewarding thing - and she believes that it’s a God-given passion.
